Week 48 - Queens

Image
Monday: Twas P-Day, nothing done. Tuesday: We did a lot of finding today in Mosely, which is the more affluent part of our area, and we actually had a bit of success. We had like 3 people in a row think that we were J-Dubs, but we also got a few numbers and even had a lesson or two. Wednesday: Not super exciting but had a cool spirit-led moment. We didn't have a very busy morning, and Mamma needed some shopping done since she hurt her back, so we went to Checkers to grab her groceries, and on the way out of the flat I was like,  I should get a fresh copy of the Book of Mormon , which I never bring to Checkers. So I grab one and we go grab the groceries, and on the way back we run into Sister Praise (the one and only) and she's like "Ah, Elders, this is my new friend" and starts telling her about what we do. She then notices my Book of Mormon and takes it from me, takes Elder Heslops pencil (which he also felt prompted to grab) and gives her the BoM with our number on ...

Week 47 - Quěens (Evil E)

Monday: Surprisingly busy P-Day. We had correlation council, then we had to walk one of the kids in our ward back to his house. We afterwards passed out, went shopping, and then went to the chapel.   Tuesday: We visited one of our new-members, Sister Zethu, and taught her about prayer. After that, our day was pretty empty. We did some finding, and worked on our lesson for our gospel principles class. Wednesday: District Council has actually been moved to Thursdays so that the ZLs can come every other week, so we had a meeting with our EQP about helping him with his Elders Quorum activity. After lunch we took ze train to Northdene, got bunked, and as we were talking to him we saw the train head back towards Malvern, which meant the train wouldn't be back for a couple hours. We did some finding and got some snacks at the Checkers for the ride back, only to not eat them because the train station was actually pretty sketch, and it was dark out so we didn't want to make it look lik...

Ŵeek 46 - Queens (The W has a little hat)

Hello Friends, hope everyone is well. They say that mission prepares you for life, and that makes what's ahead after mission seem rather bleak. No day by day this week, nothing super exciting happened other than us finding a train, which was actually pretty dope 🚈. It should help us get around the area, which will hopefully help our work. But other than that, it is actually quite the struggle this side. The work, slow. Missionary work is actually super hard. I am... very tired. But, we press forward nonetheless. There is a beautiful scripture in the Doctrine and Covenants which gives me the strength to carry on. Doctrine and Covenants 121:10. There's always positives, and if there weren't things you could do to help the area as a missionary, missionaries wouldn't be in the area. So take that how you will :). But, I invite you to keep moving forward, keep Queensburgh in your prayers, and you shall receive a better email next week 🫡. No unhallowed hand can stop the work...

Week 44 - Queens

Monday: Zone P-Day, and you know what that means… Sportsball again  . It was also Elder Shumways birthday, and the Filipinos thought it would be funny to show him a Filipino tradition of smashing an egg over his head at the end of the happy birthday song, which was devastating. Tuesday: We went and visited a family who has been investigating the church for 5 years, and shes really cool! Her name is Sister Lee and she has 4 kids, it'll be pretty cool if they will be able to progress. We also got our hair snipped, which was nice. Wednesday: DC, lunch (found and epic Italian place in between Chats and Queens). Afterwards, I was feeling quite ill, so we went and rested. We also visited some members, and I lost my pen temporarily to them, which I very much hope I get back… Thursday: we had a pretty productive day today. We met with a less active who wants us to teach her boyfriend, and we are really praying that she can be brought back while we are teaching him. We also went and ...

Week 40 - Queens

Monday: Twas the first P-Day with Elder Heslop, but we didn’t really do anything interesting. There’s not really much to do in Queens. Tuesday: We taught someone at Mugg and Bean (fancy coffee place) and they gave us a free muffin! After that we went to the chapel to print some stuff out for a member, and I forgot how to use front brakes, causing me to take another flip off my bike  . After that we had some lessons, and then we headed back to the boarding, because Elder Lindberg needed to drop something off. It turns out the think he was dropping off was a car  !!! One of the areas is closed for a couple weeks, so we get to have the car until it opens back up. It's a Toyota Urban Cruiser Wednesday: DC, lunch, then we did some finding and had some lessons with members to get Elder Heslop acquainted with everyone. Thursday: A somewhat busy Thursday, we went to some lessons, met with one of our YSA about getting the other YSA to come back to church, and went to a bible stu...

Hello everyone, it's me again, ready for another 6 weeks in the best area in the mission, Queensburgh Monday: Our final Zone P-Day with Elders Lowe, Christiansen, Hall, Mofokeng, and Reverado. We went over to Victoria Street, which is basically a big market to buy South African things, and, you guessed it, sportsball!!!!! After that we got to go home, go back to Mayville, and go home again. Tuesday: We started the Elder Lowe farewell tour, where we go and visit everyone Elder Lowe wants to take pictures with. Today we visited Sianne, and Brother Dave, and we also fed some monkeys Rusks (think really hard cookie in the shape of a rectangular prism) Wednesday: Final district council with Elder Lowe, then we met a member for lunch and visited the Misselhorns, Sister Olivia, and Sister Maria. We also got our transfer news! We found out that Elder Pereira will actually be going home for surgery, Elder Lowe will be going to Molweni, and my new companion will be Elder Heslop, ...

Week 38 - Queens

Background: 12 Rand = $0.65 USD Monday: Elder Lowe and I took the car from Chats and went to the Mall to play with Legos. It's nice to do child things and let your brain rest. I also had a Cinnabon, which was delightful.  Tuesday: We did garden work for our friend Praise (not Sister Praise but a different Praise) and Elder Lowe pulled up a tree. After that we cleansed ourselves and visited some members to give a lesson to help strengthen their testimonies Wednesday: DC, lunch, had a few lessons in Hillary, and we started an exchange with the ZLs, me spending the day with Elder Cox in Queens. We had one more lesson after that, and ended our day. Thursday: Did exchange with Elder Cox, we went and worked with a lot of members, help them build their testimony. We're doing it with every member to try and help them grow more in the Gospel Friday: Biked a lot today, but its ok. We visited more members, and one of our less active members said she would come to church on Sunday for t...
